Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Andrea – the sugar-obsessed baker behind Ann Bakes Cakes. While I grew up dabbling in baking and candy making, it wasn’t until my mid-20s that I ramped up my passion for baking and decorating. Since then, Iโve made an array of cakes, cupcakes, buttercreams, cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, pies, cheesecakes, caramels, meringues, compotes, curds, pastry creams, glazes, ganaches, and even French macarons. I’m always experimenting with flavor and technique to whip up wow-worthy desserts for my family and friends – and now I want to share my knowledge, tips, and recipes with you!
My personal journey has been filled with many twists and turns, and I’m excited to see where my blogging path leads me. ::cue Saved by the Bell style flashback:: My dad raised me as a tried and true science nerd, and some of my favorite memories with him involve experiments in our basement (don’t worry, the house is still standing). So it’s no surprise that I have a stronger preference for the precision and science of baking over the spontaneity of cooking. Although I eventually explored other career options, I’ve always been that little science nerd at heart.
My professional journey started in public relations, but quickly veered into website design and front-end development. I’ve spent the past 7 years with agencies specializing in web design, digital marketing, and ecommerce strategy. I’ve been a developer, project manager, and production manager, and I’m used to wearing a lot of hats while spinning plates like a circus animal. And now I’m utilizing a break from work to launch my blog and write about what I love to do most – bake… and eat…
By my side is my husband, Mike, who has been with me from the very first batch of cupcakes (more on that in a future post). My mom, sister, and closest friends will join us as taste testers and recipients of extra treats – a difficult burden, I know.
